While thinking of ideas for my column

FEMINIST FABLES

time, I began leafing through one of my son's rhyme books. So very many of the rhymes

and riddles had sexist thought flowing all through them that it was really quite depressing, but I found a few goodies.....

Once upon a time, there was an army of ants who marched from place to place. They were known as Ants, Inc., and were respected by all the other animals of the neighborhood.

One day, Mark Ant-ony, fearless leader of Ants, Inc., called a meeting. The ants soon learned the details of their new adventure. Five seconds after telling the ants the details of their new mission, Mark Ant-ony self-destructed. New bids for "fearless leaders" were then opened.

The ants soon started out on their new mission, which was to rescue their cohort, Ant-y Oakley, from the clutches of the Great Anteater.

Meanwhile, the Great Anteater had Ant-y tied up on a post as he was deciding her fate. While he was thus engaged, the ants marched up his legs and began to torture him unmercifully.

The near-sighted Anteater, who had a week before been attacked by a horde of bees, when he had mistaken their hive for an ant-hill, would gladly have returned to be spared the pain he was feeling now.

He freed Ant-y Oakley and agreed to the terms the ants put before him, never to bother them again.

Moral: It is better to have bees in your bonnet, than ants in your pants.

Welcome to our 15th issue!

What She Wants, has open meetings, and any woman interested in feminist newspaper work is welcome to attend. The response to our paper has been exciting and we really need to have more women working on it. All of us in the WSW collective have other jobs or go to school, and we put the paper out on our own time. Not only do we need writers and people to help layout the paper, we need people to sell the paper. We usually meet on Saturday afternoons. Call us at 321-1877 or write P.O. Box 18072 Cleve. Hts. 44118.

SHALL WE GO A--SHEARING

"Old man, old man, shall I kiss you dearly?" "Thank you, ma'am, I hear you very clearly."

With a little bit of creativity and a whole lot of thought (preferably on a feminist level) there may yet be some hope for the "little people" of the coming generations to grow up with some freer ideas.
